Maori Week

Last week was Maori Language Week.  Room 14 joined with Room 21, Room 7 and Room 1 to sing and do Maori art.  Mrs Aldridge made Korus with the students who came to Room 14.  The Koru is a Maori symbol for LIFE, NEW BEGINNINGS, PEACE, STRENGTH, HARMONY and GROWTH.

Kahurangi Group

On Monday the Kahurangi Group came to Everglade School and performed for us.
They sang. They danced.  They told stories.  They used pois and strings.
We laughed.  We listened.  We said "Korua".  We had lots of fun learning about the Maori culture.

Rachel's mum came into Room 14. She bought in some instruments.
We played!  We sang!   We moved!  We learnt!  We had fun!

  • Freezing in a role.
  • Talking in a role.
  • Mirroring a partner.

Graham Braddock Art Course

Today Graham Braddock came and taught us how to draw a picture.
Things we need to remember are:
  • Plan your picture.
  • A picture has a beginning and an end.
  • When you draw first set the limitations. Next draw the big shapes. Finally draw the smaller shapes.
  • The key to begin a good artist is practise, practise, practise.
Here we are at the course.

Airport Trip

Room 14 had a great trip to the airport.  Thank you mums who came along to help us.
We saw lots of planes and we talked about the different people who worked at the airport.
The highlight of the trip was seeing the new All Black Air New Zealand plane take off.
